In 2009, we hosted the 2nd annual SFU Student Entrepreneur of the Year competition. With more interest than the year before there was a tough competition. This time, we discovered a young 20-year old entrepreneur named Ben Brown-Bentley, founder of Adrenaline Productions, a event production and promotions company that offers unique party experiences across Vancouver. As the winner of the competition in 2009, he went on to become the Surrey Board of Trade’s Student Entrepreneur of the Year in 2010, as well as recently winning the Surrey Board of Trade Top 25 under 25 award in 2011.

Adrenaline Productions is a Vancouver-based events production company of only ten months, specializing in all age and late night dance events. It is currently the only company in the Lower Mainland to offer teen dance events at a nightclub. Working with the city, the nightclubs and the police, Adrenaline licenses a normally 19+ nightclub to remove all alcohol and allow teens to party safely in a secure environment. Adrenaline Productions is also in the process of hosting a Late Night Dance Event. This will make Adrenaline the third company in Vancouver to host an LNDE legally, the other two companies having been around for over ten years each. Adrenaline Productions has seen nothing but success in all of their endeavors, with growth not seen in any Vancouver based productions company in years, and no doubt has a very bright future ahead.

Nigel Tunnacliffe is a serial social entrepreneur. He has launched 5 startups in the past 8 years, 3 over which he still retains majority ownership and management control. GE-Free Solutions is a third-party verification agency for non-genetically engineered food claims. The GE-Free Solutions verification program is similar to Oceanwise, and is currently utilized by 9 food service provider locations in the lower mainland. Current Coffee has been providing a unique, environmentally friendly office espresso service, as well as barista training and coffee catering since early 2007. Victory Castle Residences is a 9-unit social housing initiative which has been highly profitable since its launch more than 3 years ago, while providing affordable housing to marginalized groups. Nigel’s career plan includes launching and growing several profitable businesses that further the goals of environmental and social sustainability.

International Student Connection (ISC)

International Student Connection (ISC) is an international student support service agency. ISC sees and deals with international student not only as customers but as potential leaders. ISC provides full support in all aspects for international students coming to, or already in Canada. Working with students before their arrival to Canada, ISC provides them with all the necessary information about programs, schools, accommodations, cities and help them reach their best decisions. ISC also works with students after their arrival by picking them up from the airport, placing them in their fitted accommodation, and hosting efficient events that focus on connecting international students to create a network that will enable them to cooperate in projects at the present time or the near future.
