The 4th annual SFU Student Entrepreneur of the Year continues to pave its way in 2011 as a budding program and stepping stone for young entrepreneurs, inspiring business ideas and recognizing the future business leaders of tomorrow in their efforts to succeed.

The SFU SEY 2011 provides an opportunity for students to develop entrepreneurial skills in a creative and collaborative environment with an interactive 3-step workshop prior to the competition. The mission of the SFU Student Entrepreneur of the Year program is to recognize and inspire entrepreneurship to Simon Fraser University and local community.

Eligibility

Be a full-time undergraduate or graduate* student at Simon Fraser University during the 2010-11 academic year.

*Graduates must have graduated no later than Spring (June 31st) 2011.

Have operated a structured and active business operation for at least the past six months (started no later than April 1, 2011).

Have a product or service available to customers for use/purchase – OR – have developed and tested with customers a prototype/beta product or service

Have a pricing structure and distribution process in place

Application Procedure

Step 1: Submit Your Application
Submit your completed application as a .pdf or .doc file via email to info@sfusey.com subject: SFU SEY 2011 Application + [company name] before, October 25th 2011.

Step 2: Finalist Announced
The competition finalists will be announced November 1, 2011 on www.sfusey.com
All finalist will be contacted via email and asked to attend a competition preparation workshop

Step 3: Finalist Presentations
Presentations and final Judging will take place on Saturday, November 19, 2010.
Finalists will be notified about the schedule and logistics for the event following selection announcement. Prepare a 15-minute presentation based on your company’s achievements and highlighting why you should become the SFU Student Entrepreneur of the Year. Be prepared to answer questions about your presentation from the panel of judges. Be sure to invite your friends and family to the presentation (there will be a people’s choice award)!

Step 4: Reception & Awards Ceremony
Invite friends and other local entrepreneurs to attend our networking reception. Estimated 300 students and industry professional will be in attendance. All finalists have the opportunity to create a display at this event for further exposure of their company. SFU SEY 2011 winner and awards will be announced at 9:00PM
