What it is
The SFU Entrepreneur of the Year (SEY) program seeks out student entrepreneurs from Simon Fraser University to be recognized for their achievements and to compete for the title of the 2015-2016 SFU Entrepreneur of the Year.
The SEY Annual Competition has awarded over $20,000 in funding, in-kind resources and services, as well as exposure to potential customers/users and the local business community. Past winners have gone on to achieve greater successes through local, national, and global entrepreneurship competitions and programs such as the ACE Regional and National Competitions, the Global Student Entrepreneur of the Year Competition, and the Next 36.
After completing two online preliminary rounds, eight semi-finalist teams will be chosen to compete on the day of the annual competition, January 23, 2016. Each semi-finalist will have 7 minutes to present their venture to a panel of local entrepreneurs, followed by a 13 minute Q&A session.
Of these eight teams, three will advance to the final round of competition where the audience will have the opportunity to watch the presentations and observe who will become the next SFU Entrepreneur of the Year.
This year, the competition structure and important dates are as follows:
- Round One: Online Applications, November 1-29
- Round Two: Pitch Decks, December 14-27
- Semi-Final Round: Pitch and Q&A, January 23
- Final Round: Pitch and Q&A, January 23
This year’s competition will take place on Saturday, 23 January 2016 from 1:30pm to 7:00pm at SFU’s Surrey campus. To reserve you seat today, please click here.
